Kiwis. We’re a resourceful lot. When we’re faced with a challenge we’re not the type to sit back and do nothing. Instead we pull out the “Number 8 Wire” Kiwi mentality that we are famous for, roll up our sleeves and get stuck into finding a solution. And in many cases, what drops out the other end of that uniquely Kiwi development process is a product or solution that is a significant improvement on what we have previously had.


That’s exactly how it was, when back in the early 90’s the Forest Industry approached one of Damar Industries’ founding directors, Scott Thomson, with a problem. Workers within the industry who were using spray cans on skid sites, processing yards and in the bush were going home after a days’ work suffering from narcosis. The paints they were using at the time were having an undesirable effect on them, and the industry wanted someone to come up with something to resolve this. In fine Kiwi fashion, Scott rolled up his sleeves, put his thinking cap on and in 1992 the brand that many of us have come to know and love, SprayWell, was born. 21 years later, SprayWell is now the leading brand of aerosol markers within the New Zealand forest and timber industry, and the original SprayWell formulation is still in use today.

Originally introduced as a low aromatic, chlorinated solvent free product, SprayWell set a new standard when it came to delivering a safer product to the industry, while continuing to meet users’ requirements around ease of use and product reliability. Product development and enhancement have remained at the forefront for SprayWell, and in the years since, SprayWell has been extended with a range of additional products including specialist stencil marking, construction and road marking products. Along with a range of support accessories including extension arms and marking trolleys, there is now a SprayWell product to suit almost any marking application.

SprayWell remains a proud member of the Damar Industries family of brands. Damar is still 100% New Zealand Owned and Operated and continues to operate from the hub of New Zealand’s forestry sector in Rotorua where it was first established in the mid 1980’s. In recent years Damar itself has undergone significant growth and now has offices located in Rotorua, Hawkes Bay, and Auckland. Recently Damar acquired another company in Australia, so it’s fitting that in it’s 21st year, when we all “come of age” that SprayWell has grown up, spread its wings and made a move offshore and is now available on the other side of the Tasman.

To celebrate the 21st Birthday of SprayWell in New Zealand, Damar Industries are releasing a special limited edition run of 21,000 cans containing 21% more product. “We wanted to thank our loyal customers by giving them an additional 21% more product at no extra cost in these very special, limited edition celebration cans” says Wayne Cockburn.
